Definition
The is an eparchy (diocese ) of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada Western Eparchy is an eparchy (diocese ) of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada (UOCC) under the Church of Constantinople. It was established in 1958.
Components
The Western Eparchy consists of the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. It has about 74 parishes (most of them country churches), with 2 cathedral churches :
Saint John's Cathedral in Edmonton, Alberta, and Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The ruling bishop of the Western Eparchy is styled as “Bishop of Edmonton, and the Western Eparchy”.

Bishops of the Western Eparchy
The first bishop of the newly-established eparchy was Bishop Andrew (Metiuk) in 1959. He had been assigned previously (1958) as administrator of the new eparchy. He became Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church of Canada in 1975.
The second bishop of the eparchy was Archbishop Boris (Yakovkevych), who was transferred to the eparchy in 1975. He served in this eparchy until his repose in Christ in 1984.
The third bishop of the eparchy was Bishop John (Stinka). He was transferred to the eparchy in 1985. It was during his episcopal service that the Western Eparchy established a permanent residence in Edmonton for the bishop, which served also as the office of the bishop and the eparchy.
Change of name, and reception into the Patriarchate of Constantinople, 1990
In 1990, the “Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church of Canada” changed its name to the “Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada”. In the same year, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada was received into communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople, and all the bishops became a part of that patriarchate.
Archbishop John (Stinka) served in the eparchy until 2005, when he became Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada.
The fourth bishop of the eparchy was Bishop Ilarion (Rudnyk). He was transferred to the eparchy in 2008.
Although he became Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada in 2022, at that time, he retained in addition his residence in and leadership of the Western Eparchy in Edmonton.
