==Early life of Vsevolod Kolomijcew-Maidanski==

Vsevolod Kolomijcew-Maidanski, son of Protopresbyter Wasylij and Panimatka Maria Kolomijcew-Maidanski, was born in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalisz Kalisz], [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poland Poland] on 10 December, 1927. In 1945, the Kolomijcew-Maidanski family fled westwards from the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_invasion_of_Poland approaching Soviet army]. The [http://en.orthodoxwiki.org/Russian_Orthodox_Exarchate_in_Western_Europe Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Western Europe] at the time did not have authority in [https://www.britannica.com/place/Germany Germany], so it was [http://www.holy-trinity.org/ecclesiology/shahovskoy-confirmation.html Metropolitan Seraphim (Lade)] of the [https://orthodoxwiki.org/Russian_Orthodox_Church_Outside_Russia Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia] (ROCOR) who looked after the interests of [https://orthodoxwiki.org/Church_of_Constantinople Church of Constantinople] there, and it was he who provided letters of safe transit for the Orthodox Christian clergy in Poland fleeing the [https://www.britannica.com/place/Soviet-Union Soviets]. The Maidanski family took 5 months in 1945 to arrive in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxembourg Luxembourg], and they were able eventually to settle in Germany for a time.

==Further education==

In Germany, Vsevolod continued and completed his theological studies at the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Dillingen Dillingen Theological University].

Father Wasylij agreed, and the entire Maidanski family emigrated to [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia Australia] to serve the spiritual needs of the Faithful in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia Sydney] and other cities. Vsevolod continued his higher education at the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Sydney Sydney] and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Melbourne Melbourne] Universities in Australia.

The family hoped in time to be able to move to the [https://www.britannica.com/place/United-States USA], where a large Ukrainian community had developed following the end of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II World War II]. Vsevolod's mother reposed in 1952 in Australia.

==Emigration to the USA, 1955==

In 1955, Vsevolod and his sister received visa-opportunities to emigrate to the USA. His sister emigrated first, but Vsevolod remained in Australia to complete his undergraduate education. Afterwards, he and Protopresbyter Wasylij also moved to the USA, and took up residence in the centre of the Ukrainian community in [https://www.britannica.com/place/New-York-City New York City].

Vsevolod began his graduate studies at [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeshiva_University Yeshiva University] in New York City. He graduated in 1964 with a diploma in Clinical Psychotherapy, and he was appointed to the Medical Faculty of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Einstein_College_of_Medicine Einstein College] as a [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychotherapy psychotherapist] specialising in family and youth therapy. Protopresbyter Wasylij Maidanski reposed in 1961. In 1985, he more strongly felt the call of the Lord to serve Him. Bishop Vsevolod (Maidanski) was assigned to be the Titular Bishop of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skopelos Skopelos].

From 1987 through 1996, Bishop Vsevolod served as the Prime Hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in America (Ecumenical Patriarchate). He developed a closer relationship with the hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, and he was supportive of the invitation by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA to come under the [https://orthodoxwiki.org/Omophorion omophor] of the Patriarchate.

Following the acceptance of this invitation, Bishop Vsevolod and the hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, having been strongly urged to do so by the Sobors of both jurisdictions, became resolute in their desire and efforts to reach the long-dreamed-of goal of finally uniting the 2 jurisdictions.

==Unification of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in America (Ecumenical Patriarchate) and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, 1996==

The book, "We are All Brothers", a collection of his writings and speeches, was published in 1999, and a second volume was published in 2006.

Washington, DC], which have met annually since 1997. He was a plenary-session speaker, and he led many of the prayer services at these ecumenical meetings.

Archbishop Vsevolod represented the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA in continued discussions with the various factions of Ukrainian Orthodoxy in [https://www.britannica.com/place/Ukraine Ukraine] throughout the last 10 years of his life.

The archbishop was fluent in several European languages. He was a member of the Council of Bishops and the Metropolitan Council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA. Archbishop Vsevolod (Maidanski) reposed in the Lord on 16 December, 2007 in Chicago.

==Reflections==

It was a deep and heartfelt concern of Vladyka Vsevolod (Maidanski) that the spiritual divisions amongst Ukrainians be overcome, if possible. For this reason, he frequently visited not only Ukraine, but also the Ecumenical Patriarchate, to whom he looked for any possible solution amongst the Orthodox Christians in particular. His concern, however, was not limited only to the Orthodox.

The background, experience and education of Vladyka Vsevolod enabled him to look deeper into the possibilities of a reconciliation between the Ukrainian Catholics (Uniats) of Ukraine and the Orthodox Christians. As difficult as was the path towards overcoming the differences amongst the Orthodox Christians, the challenges were greater yet in finding any path towards unity with the Unia. Such a resolution had to involve the Roman Catholic Church with which it was united. This was one of the causes for his support of the "Orientale Lumen" conferences.

Vladyka Vsevolod travelled widely and frequently, and he established a great many personal connexions amongst all the leaders of the concerned entities. Through these connexions, he did his best to promote clarity of communication and any steps towards the hoped-for unity.

During his life-time, both in the USA and in Canada, the independent and the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox diocese came into unity with each other under the omophor of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in 1996.
