			These comments are from a parishioner who knew him, and who succeeded him in the leadership of the parish council :

			• Mel’s intense joy to sing saw him in choir year after year. With his strong bass, he was a solid addition to our church choir. He also sang along in Chapel at Holy Family Personal Care Home whenever he could. I remember singing Christmas Carols with him on a few floors for the residents there.

			• He loved people. Whether he knew a person or not, give him a few minutes and they would know him. He knew to talk to people, he loved to joke with them and would be inclined to add anyone to his already large circle of friends. It seems to me that he saw the face of Christ in anyone whom he met.

			• Mel made sure that CN would make an annual donation of considerable size to our Parish.
			This donation had a special place in his heart and he dutifully reminded the necessary personnel at CN of it. As a Church Council president he knew how valuable such a monetary donation was for us. If there was a fundraiser at church, Mel would be sure to be involved in it. It was done with joy !

			• People knew his smile, and they loved him.
